In this study, we approach weekend discharges from acute-care hospitals (ACHs) from three perspectives: What do published studies tell us about the consequences of being discharged from an acute---care hospital on weekends or during night shifts? What do stakeholders in Ontario think are barriers to and facilitators of safe weekend discharges from acute-care hospitals? Last, how do discharge rates vary within the week, do we observe changes over time in these rates and does it depend on the type of post -discharge care (PDC) setting?
